Deep V hulls where introduced to correct a problem flat bottms used to have, when moving at 30 knots on sea with a flat bottom the boat offers a big flat surface almost parallel to the sea that bumps really hard when going from wave to wave. The V opens the wave smoothly and let the hull go back into sea smoothly.

WEBApr 30, 2019 · Put a wood keel down the center, then cover the entire bottom with ordinary blue or pink XPS, and shape the blue foam into the V you want. Thick next to the keel, nothing at the chines. Then cover it with glass and epoxy. This will give you the V you want, of course change the displacement, and deaden the sound. H.W.

WEBJan 8, 2010 · Most of the custom builders use either 0.190 or 0.250 for the bottom and maybe the transom, then do the rest of the boat in 0.125. I believe some of the custom builders on the Columbia River (with lotsa rapids and boulders) are doing some larger boats up to 0.375 bottoms with the rest of the boat in 0.250.

WEBSep 27, 2021 · One of the modifications I think I should make is to fiberglass the hull. It has a flat hull 7’ x 20’. It has nine 2”x 2” keels on the bottom. In order to fiberglass, I understand I needed to round off the keels and filleting the inside corners. So the fiberglass wouldn’t have any 90 degree turns.
