Nageeye, the Tokyo Olympic silver medalist, edged Kenyan Evans Chebet, 2:07:39 to 2:07:45, to become the first Dutch runner to win New York City. Nageeye, 35, finished fourth, third and fifth in the last three New York City Marathons.

Sheila Chepkirui, from Kenya, won in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 35 seconds. Abdi Nageeye's winning time was 2:07.39. He is the first winner from the Netherlands.

Nageeye had run the New York race three times before, with his previous best finish being third in 2022. The winner that year was Kenya's Evans Chebet, and Chebet almost secured another victory this weekend as he and Nageeye were battling it out heading into Central Park.
