Michigan State junior tight end Jack Velling was hospitalized on Friday night as a precautionary measure after suffering an apparent upper body injury during the first quarter of Michigan State’s 24-17 victory over Purdue at Spartan Stadium.

Michigan State medical staff quickly signaled for the stretcher and cart while surrounding Velling. He was down on the field for five minutes and had his jersey removed before being placed on a backboard and carted off. Velling gave a thumbs up amid cheers while being driven off the Spartan Stadium turf.
