Singer, song writer and actress Marianne Faithfull has died, her spokesperson confirmed to CNN Thursday. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull. Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed,” the statement said.

In her later years, Faithfull became a fashion crowd darling, knocking around New York with Karl Lagerfeld, performing at Chloé events and dressing for the stage in Chanel.

Marianne Faithfull died Thursday in London at age 78. The singer, actress and "It" girl of 1960s London inspired — or wrote — numerous Rolling Stones songs.
