President-elect Donald Trump on Friday named Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer to lead the Department of Labor in his second administration, elevating a Republican congresswoman who has strong support from unions in her district but lost reelection in November.

Chavez-DeRemer is one of only a few Republican lawmakers to back legislation that would strengthen labor unions.

Chavez-DeRemer, who recently represented Oregon in Congress, has often been one of the lone Republican supporters of various pro-union bills and has advocated for improvements to the child care system.
