Michigan State football experienced another tough blow on Friday night, with tight end Jack Velling suffering a scary injury in the first half of the win over Purdue. Velling took a hard hit from a Purdue defender on a high pass and was instantly down on the ground injured.

In a cold, Friday night game at Spartan Stadium, the Michigan State football team (5-6, 3-5 Big Ten) scraped by for a 24-17 win over Purdue (1-10 , 0-8). What started off as a strong performance against the Big Ten’s worst team turned into a game way too close for comfort for the Spartans considering all that was on the line.

Aidan Chiles threw for two scores in the first half to build a three-touchdown lead and Michigan State held on to beat Purdue 24-17 on Friday night. The Spartans (5-6, 3-5 Big Ten) are a win away from being eligible for a bowl with first-year coach Jonathan Smith and they play Rutgers at home in the final regular-season game.
