US Navy to get new ship that can carry modular payloads for surface warfare
An American company will soon design and build the future small surface combatant (SSC) ship for the U.S. Navy. HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division has been selected to build the vessel. Ingalls shipbuilders will once again engage in construction activities alongside its destroyer and amphibious ship shipbuilding lines where the national security cutters were built,
The U.S. Navy has canceled its original plans for the Constellation-class frigate program, limiting it to just the two ships already being constructed.

NAVSEA released the RFI (Request for Information) to the industry at the beginning of 2025. Following this, in July, Damen received a Technical Data Package (TDP) award from NAVSEA for the LST100. The design has now been selected as the basis for the LSM class.
