Starfleet Academy has scored an early Season 2 renewal — and a plum cast addition. Paramount+ announced the pickup on Saturday at New York Comic-Con, where the network also revealed that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) will recur in Season 1 of the Star Trek offshoot.

Starfleet Academy still in production, the latest installment in the Star Trek franchise has been renewed for a second season by Paramount+. The early pickup was announced by Star Trek universe steward Alex Kurtzman,

According to the series’ official logline, the show “will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. The series will introduce viewers to this young group of cadets as they come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism.

Starfleet Academy hasn’t even aired yet but has already been renewed for a second, a huge get for the latest expansion of the franchise. Added to this, Tatiana Maslany – who fully broke out in more ways than one with Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – has also been named as a cast member.

Starfleet Academy has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+ while Season 1 is still in production. The early renewal was announced by executive producer, co-showrunner, director and franchise boss Alex Kurtzman on a livestream from the show’s Toronto set during the Star Trek universe panel at New York Comic-Con on Saturday.
