The Southern Jaguars are leading the Grambling State Tigers 10-7 at halftime in the 51st Bayou Classic. Southern opened the scoring as running back CJ Russell walked into the endzone for a 1-yard touchdown rush. The drive was 5 plays for 54 yards at 5:20 in the first quarter.

Southern University claimed its third straight Bayou Classic victory, defeating Grambling State 24-14 at Caesars Superdome on Saturday. The Jaguars, who had already clinched the SWAC West title and a spot in the SWAC Championship Game, showcased their dominance on both sides of the ball.

The victory gives the Jaguars (8-4, 7-1 SWAC) a boost going into next week’s conference championship game at Jackson State. It’s the first eight-win season for Southern since going 8-5 in 2019.
