At the time, Levy assumed this was an Easter egg Deadpool & Wolverine ’s visual effects team came up with, but after the interview, the director checked with the VFX department and learned that this ship wasn’t a Master & Commander callback after all. He wrote in a follow-up email:

The continued hunt for Deadpool and Wolverine Easter eggs recently led one fan to spot a reference to Master and Commander's HMS Surprise lurking in the background of the Void. As it turns out, that Easter egg wasn't an Easter egg at all – and it even fooled director Shawn Levy.
