Lebanon awoke to a ceasefire on Wednesday as Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia halted fighting, with displaced residents returning home despite warnings that a new outbreak of violence could erupt from any breaches of the agreement.

Several Arab countries have welcomed the ceasefire deal between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia in Lebanon, hoping it would lead to further de-escalation in the region. Egypt and Qatar have expressed the hope that it would lead to another deal to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
