Just days after figure skaters, family and coaches from across the United States came together in Wichita, a tragic plane crash has left the U.S. Figure Skating community reeling.

Following last night’s tragic plane crash of a flight that originated from Wichita, the Kansas Congressional delegation of Sens. Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall and Reps. Tracey Mann, Derek Schmidt, Sharice Davids, and Ron Estes issued the following statement:

Officials reported Thursday that all individuals aboard the American Airlines jet, which collided with an Army helicopter Wednesday night over Washington, D.C., are feared dead.

A 20-year-old Wichita woman was among the 60 passengers of Flight 5342, her father said. Grace Maxwell, a Wichita native, was on her way back to college when the American Airlines jet collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.

Wichita ice skaters were coming off of a high this week, after hosting a national event for the first time—a huge feather in their cap—said Sean O’Reilly, general manager of the Wichita Ice Center. A three-day figure skating development camp for skaters followed it this week,

"This is a terrible tragedy that will unite those in Washington, D.C. and Wichita, Kansas," the mayor said in an emotional press conference on Jan. 30
