After Janelle Bynum declared her victory and the Associated Press officially called the race for Oregon's 5th Congressional District Thursday morning, incumbent Lori Chavez-DeRemer released a statement formally conceding to Bynum.

Democrat Janelle Bynum has defeated incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer and will give Oregon a 5-1 Democratic majority in Congress, the third time she has beaten her Republican rival in an election in less than a decade.

State Representative Janelle Bynum, a Democrat and the first Black woman elected to represent Oregon in Congress, ousted the freshman Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer.

Bynum currently holds an 8,575 vote edge over Chavez-DeRemer across the district, which covers all or portions of six counties. Bynum built her edge by winning far more votes over her Republican rival in Multnomah (14,400 vote edge) and Clackamas (nearly 9,000 votes) counties, as well as in Deschutes County (8,700).
