Microsoft has issued a warning to Windows 10 users, notifying them that free security updates will end in October 2025. With nearly 400 million devices unable to upgrade to Windows 11 due to hardware limitations, users face a choice: upgrade their systems or pay $30 for a one-year extension of support.

While users still have less than a year before the end of support date for Windows 10 slated this October 2025, Microsoft wants users to upgrade to either the Windows 11 computers or Copilot Plus PCs that offer the 'ultimate' Windows 11 experience.

The reminders also lack information about the Extended Security Update (ESU) program, an alternative for Windows 10 users like the Home users can receive one additional year of security updates for a one-time fee of $30, while schools, businesses, and other organizations can access up to three years of extended support.

Microsoft wants to be done with Windows 10 and have everyone move to Windows 11. It’s given the nine-year-old operating system an official expiration date next year, and it’s not shy about leaving those users behind.
