Nokia has signed a contract with Deutsche Telekom to roll out a mobile network using Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) in more than 3,000 sites in Germany, the Finnish telecom equipment maker said in a statement on Wednesday.

Finnish vendor Nokia has won a contract to deploy more than 3,000 sites for Deutsche Telekom's (DT) Open RAN network in Germany. In winning the contract, it marks a return to providing RAN equipment to Deutsche Telekom for Nokia, after DT chose to work with Ericsson for parts of its network in 2017.

Nokia struck a deal with Deutsche Telekom to support the rollout of more than 3,000 open RAN-compliant sites in Northern Germany.

Nokia Oyj (NOK, Financials) will provide equipment for over 3,000 stations as Deutsche Telekom AG expands its Open Radio Access Network in Germany. The deployment is under process at Neubrandenburg, Northern Germany.

The deal also marks Nokia’s return as a supplier to “Europe’s largest network” and will see Nokia replace the incumbent vendor in the area covered in the agreement, as per the statement.
