Oral arguments in the landmark transgender healthcare case U.S. v Skrmetti begin today at the U.S. Supreme Court — and the teen plaintiff at the center of it all says she’s hopeful the court will rule in favor of trans youth.

On Monday, the 16-year-old transgender girl at the center of the U.S. Supreme Court case United States v. Skrmetti (identified in court documents as LW) spoke to ABC News about the upcoming landmark transgender healthcare case.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in U.S. v. Skrmetti, a challenge to Tennessee’s 2023 law banning gender-affirming medical care for minors, including puberty blockers and hormone therapies. The case carries immense personal and national stakes, and L.W. hopes it will make thousands of kids feel “seen” for who they are.

The Supreme Court case centers on Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and hormone treatments, which trans patients call lifesaving and the state made illegal.
