Spain is reeling from its worst flooding in decades, after a year’s worth of rain fell in just hours this week in the country’s southern and eastern regions.

Flood-hit towns near the eastern city of Valencia were rushing on Tuesday to clear the sewage system of mud and debris, pile sandbags and cancel school classes as they prepared for another approaching storm.

Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes in the Costa del Sol over new flooding fears after a weather alert for the area went from yellow to red and locals and holidaymakers were warned of an 'extreme risk.
