Parvesh Verma of BJP has defeated AAP national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi assembly constituency.

The Delhi Assembly elections 2025 saw polling on February 5 across 70 constituencies, including Palam, Delhi Cantonment, Rajinder Nagar and New Delhi.

The current Delhi Assembly election was the toughest test for Kejriwal who had arrived on Delhi's political scape with a promise of a fresh approach and wave of clean governance sans VIP culture.

Having dethroned AAP supremo and three-time Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat today, Verma would fancy his chances for the top post.

Parvesh Verma is a well-known BJP leader and a two-time Member of Parliament (MP) from West Delhi. He comes from a political family—his father, Sahib Singh Verma, was a former Delhi chief minister and a senior BJP leader. His uncle, Azad Singh, also served as the mayor of North Delhi.

The BJP leaders remained tightlipped about its Chief Ministerial candidate after the party achieved a majority with over 45 seats in a 70-member Assembly which has 36 as the majority mark.
