After threatening for days to swell to a major flood stage, the Edisto River in Colleton and Dorchester counties crested short of the 15 foot cutoff Nov. 12.

Some Colleton County residents are still experiencing flooding as portions of the Edisto River continue to rise.Rainfall totals in Orangeburg reached as high as 15 inches last week and that water has been moving downstream through the river.

Emergency crews in Colleton County are currently evacuating residents who live near the Edisto River due to flooding. Specifically, residents near Whetstone Crossroads are being moved to higher ground.

The Edisto River is rising, and the waterway is set to hit a major flood stage in the early morning hours of Nov. 12. Officials are encouraging evacuations.

Dorchester County activated its emergency operations center Monday amid flooding along the Edisto River. While flooding has not been significant at this point in Dorchester County, rescue crews are stationed along the river and a command center is prepped for use at the Givhans Fire Department.
