The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, which operates the dock on Georgia’s Sapelo Island, is leading the state’s investigation into why the aluminum gangway failed.

Authorities are working to identify the cause of a partial ferry dock collapse on Georgia’s Sapelo Island that turned a day of celebration into tragedy, leaving at least seven dead and six critically injured as crowds gathered for a cultural festival.

Prominent Civil Rights attorney Ben Crump stood with grieving families Tuesday morning and demanded justice for the “Sapelo Seven” -- the seven elderly men and women who died over the weekend when a dock gangway collapsed in Georgia.
