Apple’s next phone operating system arriving this fall, iOS 26, includes a transparent aesthetic mimicking the look of glass and making apps and buttons blend in with content on the screen. Google is doing the opposite with its newly released operating system, Android 16, which emphasizes brighter, punchier colors.

Android president Sameer Samat confirmed that Chrome and Android will be combined into one operating system to “make your laptop + phone work better together.”

Macs with macOS 11 will still be able to run the last supported version of Chrome, but users will receive a warning stating that their OS is no longer supported, precluding any further updates. Those who want to keep up with Chrome's latest versions will have no choice but to update their Mac to macOS 12 or later.
