For the Pilgrims at Plymouth, Massachusetts, a three-day feast in the autumn of 1621 was a thanksgiving for a successful harvest. The Wampanoag Indians, who had taught the pilgrims how to plant crops and hunt wild game, joined them at the feast. Women and children likely came, too, as the women were the farmers in the Wampanoag culture.
