Georgia's pro-Western president has said she will stay in post until new parliamentary elections are held, as protests continue over the government's decision to put EU accession negotiations on hold.

Thousands of people took to the streets after the government said it had suspended talks on joining the European Union.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Saturday that the state would not allow a revolution to take place, after protests against his government's sudden freezing this week of Georgia's EU accession process.
