Tampa City Council passed a motion Thursday that will allow the city to move forward a with a flood relief project that has divided a community.

After weeks of community meetings and debate among neighbors, Tampa City Council members voted 5-2 Thursday evening to move forward with a major stormwater system update in South Tampa. The city will pay Kimmins Contracting Corp.

After weeks of back-and-forth between neighbors, the Tampa City Council is expected to vote on the South Howard Flood Relief Project.

The decision could impact dozens of businesses along South Howard Avenue including Bern’s Steak House, Haven and the Epicurean Hotel.
